It feels like we’re a generation searching for some sort of authenticity,” said Jason Diamond, 31, a writer and founder of Volume 1 Brooklyn, a Brooklyn-based event production company and indie publishing imprint. He compares “the guy who’s never actually spent time in the forest wearing a Barbour jacket, or someone who’s never gone fishing wearing duck boots” to clothing stores that display stacks of well-read books and furbish their walls with reclaimed wood.
“These things seem inherently real to us, and they look really good,” said Diamond.
Comfort, he adds, may be another driving force — which seems to be something everyone can agree on, even self-proclaimed preps.
Columbia: Didn’t want me as an undergrad, but care about my thoughts on why people wear Barbour jackets and LL Bean duck boots. -

I’ve got mixed feeling about this whole Frank Muytjens J. Crew jacket. It’s a Dr. Zhivagoesque experiment that works out nicely. A little Barbour (the collar) and a little Jack Kennedy tying his boat to the dock. Kinda like it, but undecided. (Picture via New York Mag)
